First of all, R.I.P. Chick Corea. He’s recently passed away, and I cannot explain how sad it’s been for me to hear such terrible news. He’s been my primary source of inspiration in my path through jazz music.
His memory will live forever, through the beautiful pieces and performances he’s left to us.
So, I would like to share a piece that really has had a big impact on my life. It is able to capture a lot of joyful moments I’ve lived, and I believe it deserves to be widely known.
It’s called 500 Miles High, and its original version can be found in the album Return to Forever.
Anyway, the version I appreciate the most is the instrumental one from the album Past, Present & Futures.
The thing I like the most of this piece, is the way it’s able to dance with your feelings. The chord progression is perfect itself, and Chick is able to make a piece even more enjoyable thanks to his profound improvisation and perception skills.
Thank you.
Goodbye Chick.
